Former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has explained that the key to succeeding at the club lies in prioritizing the players and building a strong connection with them.

Speaking on Hamidou Msaidie’s YouTube channel, Zidane said the main reason Xabi Alonso was sacked was his inability to manage the dressing room effectively. He noted that Alonso was trying to fight a battle he could not win at Real Madrid because he failed to win over the players.

Zidane said, “At Real Madrid, we were at the players’ disposal. That’s what makes a team strong—you’re there for the players. If you don’t get that, you won’t last long in this job.

“For the dressing room to support your plans, the players need to like you. If they don’t buy into your training methods and system, something will always be missing. We gave the players confidence, helped them regain fitness and motivation, and made sure they enjoyed training and matches. That’s how you win titles, including Champions Leagues.”

During his two stints at Real Madrid, Zidane managed 263 games, winning three UEFA Champions League titles and two LaLiga championships.
