20-YEAR-OLD ALLEGEDLY MURDERS FATHER WITH MACHETE IN ANAMBRA

A 20-year-old man, identified as Pascal Ogbogu, has allegedly murdered his 56-year-old father with a machete in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday evening when Ogbogu allegedly attacked his father, inflicting a deep machete wound on his throat. He was said to have left the victim’s body in a room before fleeing the area.

Following a distress call, police operatives from the Eziowelle Police Division, supported by family members and members of the Abatete community vigilante, launched a search for the suspect and subsequently arrested him in the early hours of Wednesday.

The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to Ikenga, police officers and community members found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with a deep machete wound to the throat. His remains were later evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, commended the police, family members, vigilante personnel and community members for their prompt response and cooperation in apprehending the suspect.

He directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police assured the public that the investigation would be conducted professionally and that the suspect would be subjected to due process upon its conclusion.
