NFF CRISIS DEEPENS AS IBRAHIM GUSAU, SEVEN BOARD MEMBERS RESIGN

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, and several other members of the federation’s board have resigned amid mounting pressure over the administration of Nigerian football.
The resignations follow a series of setbacks involving the country’s national teams, including the Super Falcons’ historic failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The NFF board had also come under scrutiny over the management of funds allocated to the national teams. The Department of State Services (DSS) is reportedly investigating the utilisation of the N17 billion intervention fund approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2024 to settle outstanding players’ wages and bonuses.
Sources said security operatives had requested documents detailing how the funds were utilised, while stressing that the probe was part of routine financial scrutiny.
The crisis deepened after more than half of the 13-member NFF board reportedly resigned, with eight members said to have vacated their positions.
The development has also raised questions over the NFF’s scheduled September 27 elections in Lafia, Nasarawa State, as the mass resignations could affect the process.
