TWO SUSPECTED HERDERS ARRESTED OVER ALLEGED ATTACK ON FARMERS IN PLATEAU

Troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have arrested two suspected herders following an alleged attack on residents harvesting crops in Sabon Layi village, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post shared on X on Wednesday.
Makama said the troops, deployed to Sabon Layi under Operation Hard Knock, responded to a distress call concerning an alleged attack by Fulani herders on residents.
Upon arrival, the troops reportedly found an elderly woman who had sustained injuries during the incident.
Two suspected herders were subsequently arrested, while other members of the group allegedly fled the area.
The injured woman was evacuated to the Missionary Hospital in Sabon Layi, where she received medical attention.
The suspects were later handed over to the Keystone Mangu Divisional Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Security agencies are continuing operations in the area to maintain peace, prevent further attacks and avert any escalation of tensions in the community.
