LAWYER ARRESTED FOR FABRICATION OF EVIDENCE AND IMPERSONATION

A Wuse Magistrate Court has remanded a former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye in Kuje Prison, Abuja, following his arraignment by the police for injurious falsehood, fabricating false evidence and impersonation on Thursday.
The accused, who was disbarred by the Supreme Court in April, was said to have “published some injurious and abusive contents against the Nigeria Police Force on his Facebook page titled Due Process Advocate.” Uwguonye was alleged to have cooked up false evidence of the names of suspects in detention which he allegedly circulated with intent to extort money from members of the public and incite the public against the police. The police further said that the accused also posed as a lawyer despite being disrobed by the Supreme Court. The former lawyer pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded in Kuje Prisons. The police said his actions were contrary to and punishable under Sections: 393, 342, 148, 158, 132 and 144 of the Penal Code.
The First Information Report on the matter read, “That on October 16, 2018, at 1630hrs, acting on a tip-off, one Emeka Ugwuonye ‘m’ of No. 25 Adeyemo Alakija Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, was arrested by detectives from the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, FCT Police Command, Abuja, “That on October 15, the said Emeka Ugwuonye published some injurious and abusive language against the Nigeria Police Force on his Facebook page titled Due Process Advocate with the intention to dissuade police Investigators from carrying out their statutory roles. “He fabricated false evidence of the names of a suspect in the detention of the police through videotaping and circulating same with intent to extort money from members of the public.” Magistrate Ahmed Ndajiwo adjourned the case to October 25 for hearing of the bail application.
