… Showcases Amazing Sports Talents Among Students

In a vibrant atmosphere of athleticism and camaraderie, Government Model College, Ikorodu, was full of life as Education District II recently held its Y2024 annual Sports Festival.

Among other things, the event served as a dynamic platform to spotlight emerging sports talents within the district, unveiling a plethora of new athletes who showcased remarkable skills and shattered records with their exceptional performances.

The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of the District, Mrs. Anike Adekanye extended heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated educators and enthusiastic students whose unwavering passion and commitment continue to drive the district towards the realisation of its goals, aligning seamlessly with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S PLUS AGENDA.

She underscored the festival’s pivotal role in fostering a culture of sportsmanship and physical activity among the district’s schools, emphasising the importance of channelling students’ energy into wholesome pursuits that contribute to their overall development.

EDUCATION DISTRICT II  CELEBRATES YORUBA CULTURE, TRADITIONAL DAY IN IMOTA 

Mrs. Adekanye highlighted the district’s innovation of yearly pioneering of sports festivals with new events like horse racing, athletic displays and a few others, noting that she is committed to further expanding the scope of sporting activities in the District each year.

While acknowledging the festival’s overarching mission, the TG/PS underscored the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play in shaping well-rounded individuals, adding that the event serves as a platform to nurture social interaction and foster the development of skills and talents across various sports disciplines similar to the aspirations of aspiring athletes worldwide.

Mrs. Adekanye expressed profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for constantly giving the nod for such inspirational programmes that focus on the total development of the child.

She equally appreciated the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, expressing that the Commissioner was a blessing to every Lagos Student.

Among the distinguished guests were Honourable Babajimi Benson, the Member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, House of Representatives; and Mr. Olusegun Osinaike, TG/PS, Education District IV, amongst others.

Adekanye extended heartfelt appreciation to the partners of the District including Mutual Benefits Assurance, The Punch Newspaper, and Education Online, whose generous support made the event possible for the Local Organizing Committee to do a good job.
