LAGOS ASSEMBLY REMOVES ONAFEKO AS CLERK, APPOINTS OSINOWO, CONFIRMS OGBARA AS COMMISSION CHAIR

The Lagos State House of Assembly has resolved to remove Mr Olalekan Onafeko as Clerk of the House with immediate effect.

The decision was reached during plenary on Tuesday and adopted through a voice vote, indicating broad consensus among lawmakers.

Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, who presided over the session, explained that the move was in line with established rules governing tenure in the Assembly.

Obasa stated that Onafeko’s tenure had elapsed, stressing that the action was procedural and not disciplinary.

Onafeko, who assumed office on January 14, 2022, oversaw legislative administration and coordination of House activities during his tenure.

The Speaker commended his contributions, noting that the period witnessed significant legislative engagements and institutional development.

Following the development, the House announced the appointment of Adenike Osinowo as the new Clerk, with immediate effect.

Obasa expressed confidence in her ability to enhance legislative processes and administrative efficiency, citing her experience.

In a related development, lawmakers confirmed Latifat Ogbara as Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission.

The Assembly also confirmed Remi Bello as a member of the commission.

Members described the appointments as well-deserved and urged the new officials to uphold professionalism, transparency, and dedication in the discharge of their duties.
