VIDEO: VIRAL VIDEO SPARKS PROBE INTO ALLEGED POLICE SHOOTING IN DELTA STATE

Public outrage has followed the circulation of a disturbing video on social media allegedly showing the daylight killing of a restrained suspect by armed men believed to be police officers in Delta State.

The 90-second footage, shared on X on Tuesday by user #Dee_9889, captures a violent scene involving men in civilian clothing operating near a vehicle marked “Nigeria Police Force, Effurun Area Command.”

In the video, the suspect is seen lying on the ground with his hands and legs tied while pleading for mercy and offering to cooperate with the armed men, whom he repeatedly referred to as “officers.”

During the exchange, the man reportedly claimed he had been misled by a friend and offered to reveal the individual’s location. As he mentioned that the person was in Sapele and volunteered to lead them there, one of the armed men allegedly shot him in the leg.

The victim continued to cry for help and insist on his innocence, but moments later, a second gunshot was reportedly fired toward his head in the presence of bystanders.

The footage further showed the victim’s body being carried into a waiting police van before the group left the scene.

The video has sparked widespread condemnation online, with many Nigerians demanding the arrest and prosecution of those involved.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu described the incident as disturbing, alleging that the act appeared to be an extrajudicial execution involving officers linked to the Effurun Area Command in Delta State.

Several social media users also called on police authorities to investigate the incident, arguing that the actions shown in the footage violated the law and undermined public trust in law enforcement.

Following the backlash, the Complaint Response Unit of the Nigeria Police Force confirmed via X that an investigation into the matter has been launched.

In response to complaints raised online, the unit acknowledged the report and issued a tracking number for the ongoing investigation.
