(BREAKING) SEXUAL ASSAULT: COURT SETS DATE TO DELIVER JUDGEMENT ON BABA IJESHA’S CASE

The trial of Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, popularrly known as Baba Ijesha resumed on Monday, at the Special Offences court in Ikeja as Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo adjourned till July 14 to deliver judgement in his case.

Justice Taiwo adjourned the case until July 14 for judgement after the court adopted the final written addresses of the prosecution and witnesses.

During Monday’s proceedings, the defence counsel, Mr Dada Awosika (SAN), prayed the court to adopt the final written address as he referred to Exihibit ‘A’ the CCTV recording of the event of 19th April, 2021.

He mentioned that the notion of the defense is that the person who saw the footage was not called as a witness and also that the Exihibit had been tampered with making it a secondary evident, adding that it was not in its original form

Baba Ijesha, faces a six-count charge bordering on the indecent treatment of a minor, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by penetration.

The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) brought the allegations against him.

On June 24, 2021, the defendant was arraigned. Six prosecution witnesses testified against him during the trial.

Princess, the 14-year-old juvenile, Mrs Olabisi Ajayi-Kayode, a child expert, Dr Aniekan Makanjuola, the Investigating Police Officer, ASP Wahab Kareem, and a policewoman, Insp Abigail Omane, are among those arrested.

The defendant’s case was concluded by the DPP on December 15, 2021, and Baba Ijesha’s defense began on February 17.

On June 24, 2021, the defendant was arraigned. Six prosecution witnesses testified against him during the trial.
