ONDO ATTACK: WE’RE READY TO DEFEND OURSELVES — OONI

Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has condemned the horrific attack on worshipers at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owa-luwa, Owo, Ondo State.

Over 35 people were killed and many more were injured in the attack, which occurred during Sunday Mass.

Some of the deceased worshippers were seen in a pool of blood in a viral video shared online.

The king emphasized emphatically in a statement posted on his Instagram page on Monday that, despite the Yoruba people’s peace-loving disposition, they are capable and ready to defend themselves against “foreign invaders.”

Oba Adeyeye also condemned the terrorist act and urged governors in the South-West to uphold their oaths of protecting the protection of their people’s lives.

“What happened yesterday was a terrible atrocity deliberately geared at converting Yorubaland into a war zone,” the statement said. However, despite our peace-loving nature, we, the descendants of Oduduwa, cannot be overrun in our own homes; do not be fooled; we have the capacity and are equipped and ready to defend ourselves against all external invaders.”

We should all remember that it was exactly one year ago yesterday that an invading band of killer herdsmen massacred at least 20 people in Igangan, Ibarapa North local government of Oyo State, on a Saturday night, burning down multiple houses, including the palace of the Asiganga. A year ago today!

“When disasters like this strike without warning, the implication is that our country’s security architecture’s intelligence section is either flawed or altogether lacking.”

I implore the six governors of the South-West region, as well as their brothers across the country, and the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)-led Federal Government, to uphold their oaths of securing Nigerians and ensuring the safety of all citizens, regardless of age, sex, religion, or tribe.”

The Ooni further stated that he is in talks with traditional rulers and governors in the South-West zone in order to establish “concrete strategies to preserve our people.”

“To Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the entire Owo kingdom, to my brother, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, and the entire Owo kingdom, It is my prayer that Olodumare will comfort and provide peace to the Ondo State Government, the people of Owo, the Priest and parishioners of St. Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa, Owo, the relatives of all the victims, and the entire people of Ondo State,” he stated.
