The troops came into contact with members of the dissident group during the raid operations, resulting in an exchange of fire. During the battle, the valiant troops neutralized some of the irredentists, while others fled the camp.

After winning the firefight, troops recovered 102 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 2 Pump Action guns, 5 locally made rifles, 1 roll of Detonator 27, quantity 24 Detonators, 33 electrical cables, 12 type 36 hand grenades, and 12 bags of marijuana-like substances. 3 motorcycles, 2 generators, 1 water pumping machine, military woodland camouflage, and a Nigeria Police uniform were also recovered.

On the same day, troops on routine patrol in Enugu state’s Agubeji community arrested a suspect, Mr Martins Abogwu, for conspiring with IPOB/ESN elements to carry out attacks on innocent citizens.

The suspect, who claimed to be the community’s Chief Security Officer, is assisting in the preliminary investigations that have ensued and has led troops to their camp, where a shallow grave containing two decomposing bodies was discovered. One of the bodies has been identified as a vigilante member who was kidnapped about a month ago.

The Nigerian Army assures law-abiding citizens of its unwavering resolve to deny criminal elements the freedom to act and gradually rid the nation of identified threats to national security by carrying out its constitutional responsibilities in accordance with existing rules of engagement in collaboration with other services and security agencies.

The NA also encourages members of the public to collaborate with security agencies to make the South East and the entire country more secure and peaceful.
