(UPDATE) SUDAN CRISIS: REMAINING 1700 STRANDED NIGERIANS WILL BE EVACUATED WITHIN FEW DAYS – FG

The Federal Government has assured that the remaining 1700 stranded Nigerians in Sudan will be evacuated in a matter of days.

The FG made the assurance on Friday at the Airport, upon receiving the Second batch of returnees consisting of 128 females and two males in Abuja.

The returnees came aboard Tarco Airline flight with the number B7B3/300.

Speaking on behalf of the Agencies, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, while briefing the press, mentioned that all issues relating to the delay of other flights have been resolved and cleared diplomatically.

He added that Max Air with capacity of 540 PAX, Azman Air with 400 PAX and 130 are on ground to evacuate others while Tarco promised to make two more trips as well as Air Peace on standby.

Also, a lady was reported to have put to birth in Port Sudan, according to Sani-Gwarzo, who mentioned that both mother and child are doing fine and will be back soon. He added that another who sustained hand Injury has been treated and also discharged from the hospital.

The Agencies also promised that all returnees will be profiled, catered and provided with post trauma treatment and counselling adding that there will be a collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education for the Students to continue their studies in Nigeria.

“Third batch of the flight is expected in another 12 hours or less.”

According to reports, all Returnees received a sum of N100,000 and a bag courtesy of Dangote Foundation while, NIDCOM facilitated MTN sim cards with N5000 worth of airtime to all of them. The Humanitarian Ministry also, provided foods while, NEMA provided vehicles and accommodation as well as logistics support with diplomatic cover from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Refugees Commission who promised Psycho Social Support for all of them.
