The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has maintained that the fate of fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 de Ultimate or KWAM 1, will be determined by the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police, who have received petitions against him.

NCAA spokesman Michael Achimugu made this known in an interview with Saturday Beats while reacting to KWAM1’s public apology following his confrontation with ValueJet Airline officials at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

In a personally signed statement shared with Saturday Beats on Friday, KWAM1 described the incident as “unfortunate,” stressing that it was never his intention to disrupt operations or breach aviation protocols.

The altercation, captured in a viral video, appeared to show the singer attempting to obstruct a plane’s take-off.

The incident sparked widespread backlash, prompting the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the NCAA to impose a six-month flying ban on him. The pilots involved were also suspended and placed under investigation.

On Thursday, the NCAA confirmed it had petitioned the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police, seeking KWAM1’s investigation and prosecution.

Responding to questions about the apology, Achimugu said he had not seen it, but clarified that “We have referred the case to the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation, who are better positioned to determine and communicate the next steps.”

Keyamo, in a WhatsApp message to Saturday Beats, said, “We have just seen this (apology) on social media like everyone else. We have not had the opportunity to deliberate on it.”

Attempts to confirm from police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi if the petition had been received were unsuccessful, as he was yet to respond at the time of filing this report. Efforts to get a reaction from the AGF also proved abortive.

In his public apology, KWAM1 said, “The incident that occurred at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on August 5, 2025, involving my humble self and ValueJet Airline, was, to say the least, unfortunate.

“Unknown to many, I suffer from chronic dehydration, and my doctor strongly advised that I remain constantly hydrated. This is why I always carry a water flask with me. And contrary to the negative narrative being circulated in some quarters, the flask I carried on that particular day contained only water, not alcohol, as wrongly alleged.”

He explained that the flask was empty during two security screenings and was only filled with water at the lounge before heading to the tarmac — a claim he said can be verified by CCTV footage.

Reaffirming his “unwavering patriotism and unshaken loyalty” to Nigeria, the Ade Ori Okin crooner stated, “Over the years, I have consistently used my God-given talent and platform to promote the Nigerian brand across the globe. I would never do anything to tarnish the image I’ve built over the past five decades, nor would I knowingly act in a way that could diminish the reputation of the country I love so dearly.

“That said, the incident is sincerely regretted. I remain committed to upholding the values and responsibilities that come with being a global ambassador of Nigerian music and culture.

“To the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, fellow Nigerians, and my teeming fans across the world who have shown great concern since the incident happened, I tender my unreserved and heartfelt apology.”

The viral footage showed KWAM1 standing in front of a jet moments before it began moving for take-off, with the aircraft’s wing narrowly missing him as he ducked.
