By Aishat Momoh. O.
Grammy-winning gospel singer Donnie McClurkin has revealed that his upcoming project, FINALLY, will be his last studio album, marking the end of a recording career that has spanned nearly 30 years.
The 65-year-old gospel legend shared the news on social media, describing the record as a heartfelt farewell to fans.
“We recorded something special, my last and final recording titled Finally … I can’t wait for you to hear these songs,” McClurkin wrote.
Born Donald Andrew McClurkin Jr. on November 9, 1959, in Copiague, New York, the acclaimed singer has sold more than 13 million albums worldwide. Over the years, he has won three Grammy Awards, ten Stellar Awards, two BET Awards, two Soul Train Awards, a Dove Award, and an NAACP Image Award.
Nicknamed the “Reigning King of Urban Gospel,” McClurkin is known for timeless classics such as Stand, We Fall Down, and Speak to My Heart. His 1996 self-titled debut album brought him into the spotlight, while Live in London and More… (2000) dominated gospel charts for over 40 weeks.
McClurkin’s path to musical success was shaped by personal hardship and mentorship from gospel great Andraé Crouch. Before launching his solo career, he founded the McClurkin Singers and the New York Restoration Choir.
Beyond music, McClurkin is the senior pastor of Perfecting Faith Church in Freeport, New York, and host of the nationally syndicated Donnie McClurkin Show. He has also appeared in films including The Gospel and The Fighting Temptations, as well as on BET’s Sunday Best.
While finally does not yet have a release date, McClurkin says the album will embody the soul, faith, and inspiration that have defined his career. He added that his focus will now fully shift to preaching, teaching, and community service.
“This isn’t the end of my ministry,” McClurkin said. “It’s just a new chapter.”
