Super Falcons captain and forward, Rasheedat Ajibade, has voiced her frustration over the delay in receiving promised allowances and bonuses owed to the team.

Speaking on an upcoming episode of With Chude, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade revealed that despite multiple assurances, the players have yet to be paid the pledged $100,000 and other entitlements.

“We have not received our money oo. Please, they have not paid. All the promises you heard back and forth, we have not received anything,” she stated.

According to Ajibade, the team had been told that the money had already been allocated, but none of it had reached the players.

“People are begging. We have not received it. When they pay it, you will see. Even our match bonuses and everything… everything is still a work in progress,” she lamented.

The 24-year-old urged the authorities to uphold their commitments, stressing that the prolonged delay was negatively affecting the players’ morale.

Following the Super Falcons’ landmark 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations victory in Morocco, President Bola Tinubu had announced in July 2024 that each player would receive a $100,000 cash reward in addition to other bonuses, in recognition of their historic achievement.

Ajibade also shed light on her early career, sharing that she played for FC Robo Queens in the Nigeria Women’s Football League for a decade without earning a salary. She described that period as “a tough moment.”

Reflecting on her upbringing, the Super Falcons captain disclosed that she grew up in “a compound of almost 100 people” in the Mushin area of Lagos, where she had to “wash people’s toilets and bathrooms for money.”

Ajibade began her football journey with FC Robo Queens before moving to Norwegian club Avaldsnes IL at age 17. She later signed with Atletico Madrid Feminino in 2021.
