The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has cautioned Nigerians against fraudsters attempting to exploit the 753 housing units forfeited to the Federal Government by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The EFCC formally handed over the estate to the ministry in May 2025.

At the time, the Minister of Housing, Ahmed Dangiwa, announced that the houses would be sold to interested Nigerians through a transparent and competitive process under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

However, in a statement issued on Saturday by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Badamasi Haiba, the public was reminded that no individual or organization has been authorized to handle the sale of the housing units.

He said the disclaimer became necessary following a claim by a company that it had been appointed as the official auctioneers for the sale of the 753 estate units.

Haiba explained that the ministry had learned that the company had written proposals and introduction letters to unsuspecting Nigerians and agencies, asking them to purchase an Expression of Interest form to buy the houses.

“For the avoidance of doubt, no sales of the 753 units of houses have commenced by the ministry. The ministry is informing the public that it will give a clear and adequate announcement regarding the sale as well as a strategy outlined for the sales of the houses, as directed by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, the statement read.

Haiba further advised the public to direct all inquiries to the ministry through the departments of Public Building and Housing Development, and Press and Public Relations, for clarification before committing their resources to purchase such property.
