The Federal Government has introduced a digital platform enabling Nigerians to report fraudulent practices within housing estates, upload corroborating evidence, and track the advancement of their complaints.

This initiative was disclosed on Tuesday in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, representing a significant advancement towards improving accountability and transparency within the real estate industry.

The launch featured presentations by technical consultants Messrs Freestone Investments Limited and Messrs Prunedge Development Technologies Limited.

The Ministry emphasized that dishonest practices in housing estates will no longer be tolerated, and that perpetrators will be subject to the full force of the law.

The newly inaugurated Housing Fraud Reporting Portal allows citizens to report fraudulent activities in housing estates, provide evidence, and monitor their cases.

Accessible at https://reports. fmhud.gov. ng, the portal offers individuals a secure and user-friendly interface to report instances of fraud in housing estates nationwide.

Complaints submitted through the system will be assessed by the Ministry in partnership with relevant stakeholders, including professional organizations, law enforcement entities, and the judiciary.

“The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has launched a Housing Fraud Reporting web-based platform aimed at facilitating citizens in reporting instances of fraud in housing estates.

“The platform, with the sub-domain https://reports. fmhud.gov. ng, permits users to file complaints and share pertinent evidence and information regarding fraudulent activities within the real estate sector in the nation,” the statement partially read.

In addition to the fraud reporting portal, the Ministry unveiled the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System to enhance oversight of housing initiatives.

This platform allows for real-time tracking of project progress, assesses contractor performance against key metrics, and offers a centralized repository for project documents, payment certificates, and Bills of Quantities.

Both platforms were designed to facilitate the monitoring of housing projects and enhance transparency in real estate transactions across the country.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, stated that the initiative is aligned with the 2012 National Housing Policy, which advocated for stricter regulation of the housing sector, certification of estate developers, and safeguarding citizens from fraudulent individuals.

Dangiwa pointed out that the policy also mandated an efficient administrative, legal, and regulatory framework to supervise housing delivery and ensure that all professionals in the built environment are properly registered.

Dr. Marcus Amiolemen, Deputy Director and Head of the Ministry’s ICT Department, remarked that both platforms exemplify the Ministry’s commitment to safeguarding citizens and enhancing service delivery.

He mentioned that the fraud portal was developed in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to ensure effective monitoring and follow-up of reported cases.
