Manchester United suffered a shock Carabao Cup exit on Wednesday night, losing to League Two side Grimsby Town in a dramatic penalty shootout at Blundell Park.

The match ended 2–2 in regulation time after Grimsby surged into a surprising two-goal lead within the first half-hour through Charles Vernam and Tyrell Warren.

United, facing the prospect of an embarrassing defeat, mounted a late comeback as Bryan Mbeumo struck in the 75th minute before Harry Maguire headed home an equaliser to force penalties.

The shootout stretched deep into sudden death, but Grimsby held their nerve to prevail 12–11, sparking jubilant celebrations from the home supporters and sending the Premier League giants crashing out of the competition.

The result ranks among Manchester United’s most humiliating cup exits in recent memory and marks a historic night for Grimsby Town.
