AIR PEACE TO HIRE 1,000 NEW GRADUATES

BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
Air Peace, Nigeria’s largest airline, has announced the establishment of 1,000 new positions for recent graduates through its 2025/2026 Graduate Trainee Programme.
According to the airline, this initiative is a direct reaction to the Federal Government’s recent suspension of the 4 percent Free on Board levy on imported merchandise.
The FOB levy had generated significant concern among manufacturers, importers, and customs agents, who argued that the new tax would aggravate inflation in the nation.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for Economy, Wale Edun, acknowledged that the levy, implemented by Customs, posed threats to trade facilitation, economic stability, and Nigeria’s business environment.
Edun explained that the suspension arose from widespread apprehensions expressed by manufacturers, importers, and clearing agents, who contended that the levy would intensify inflation, diminish trade competitiveness, and hinder the investment climate.
The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, who announced the initiative via a statement on Wednesday, praised President Bola Tinubu and Edun for their proactive leadership in addressing the concerns of stakeholders across vital sectors of the economy.
The airline’s leader remarked, “This suspension is a lifeline for the aviation industry. It alleviates a significant burden that could have incapacitated airlines and led to substantial job losses. In turn, Air Peace is reciprocating this kind gesture by generating 1,000 positions for young Nigerians. ”
Onyema further emphasized that this action illustrates the potential of government-private sector collaboration to foster significant economic impact. “If additional supportive measures like this come from the Federal Government, I can assure you that thousands more jobs will be generated within the aviation sector. This is how alliances can transform a nation,” he added.
In explaining the employment opportunity, Onyema stated that the Graduate Trainee Programme is designed to equip young Nigerian graduates with critical skills, mentorship, and practical exposure necessary for success in the aviation and related industries.
He noted, “It serves as a strategic conduit for developing a competent, future-ready workforce to support the ongoing growth of the sector. ”
