BAUCHI GOVT INAUGURATES COMMITTEES TO CURB CHOLERA OUTBREAKS

The Bauchi State Government convened the State Cholera Steering and Technical Committees on Wednesday to address the challenge of cholera outbreaks within the state.
During the inauguration in Bauchi, the Deputy Governor, Auwal Jatau, who also holds the position of chairman of the steering committee, encouraged members to execute their responsibilities with dedication and professionalism.
Jatau characterized cholera as one of the significant public health hazards in the state, despite ongoing interventions from the government and its partners.
He indicated that the formation of the committees was both timely and critical for orchestrated efforts to avert future outbreaks.
“These outbreaks are often preventable with timely interventions, coordinated responses, and sustained improvements in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH),” Jatau remarked.
He elaborated that the committees would act as the principal coordinating entities to spearhead Bauchi State’s multi-sectoral response to cholera incidents.
Jatau further noted that the committees would promote long-term prevention strategies aligned with the National Cholera Control Plan and the overarching objectives of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
He underscored that members of the committees were selected based on their expertise and strategic significance to the initiative.
He urged members to prioritize effective surveillance, early detection, and swift responses to potential outbreaks.
Jatau also assured health partners of Governor Bala Mohammed’s dedication to providing comprehensive support and a conducive environment for the committees to thrive.
Earlier, Dr. Sani Dambam, Commissioner for Health and Chairman of the Technical Committee, committed to collaborating with stakeholders to fulfill the state’s mandate for cholera control and prevention.
