OYO POLICE COMMAND ADVISES PARENTS TO BE VIGILANT AS SCHOOLS RESUME

BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
The Oyo State Police Command has advised guardians to remain vigilant as educational institutions reopen, underscoring the significance of being acquainted with educators, school personnel, and the interests of their offspring.
In a statement disseminated via its official X account on Tuesday, the police cautioned, “The rising instances of abuse, particularly against female students, are alarming. Remain watchful for any indicative signs from your children to assist in safeguarding them before circumstances deteriorate. ”
They further recommended that parents become familiar with school transportation drivers and security staff. Any concerns or reports can be communicated to the Oyo Police Control Room at +234 808 176 8614.
It is noteworthy that the media reported on September 15 that nationwide, primary and secondary schools commenced the first term of the 2025/2026 academic year.
While some students returned to refurbished classrooms and enhanced facilities, others encountered deteriorated buildings and overgrown grounds. In Oyo State, officials from the Ministry of Education dispelled speculation regarding a postponement, affirming that schools reopened according to the official academic calendar.
Parents and guardians were urged to prioritize not only their children’s educational achievement but also their comprehensive safety, both on and off school property.
In Lagos, the unified academic calendar indicated that the first portion of the term would span from September 15 to October 31 (34 days), whereas the second portion would extend from November 10 to December 19 (30 days).
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, in a message of encouragement to students, urged them to embrace their studies with enthusiasm.
“On behalf of the Lagos State Government, we extend a cordial welcome to all learners as we commence the 2025/2026 academic session. As you return to your classrooms, we encourage you to engage in this new session with fervor, commitment, and an eagerness for knowledge. May this academic year provide you with opportunities for growth, exploration, and excellence,” he stated.
