Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected armed robbers and a suspected drug peddler in separate operations in Asaba, the state capital.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Asaba.

According to the statement, the arrests followed a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing rising cases of armed robbery, cultism, and drug trafficking across the state.

“On October 1, 2025, the DPO ‘B’ Division Asaba, CSP Edewor Akponegware, led his surveillance team in a swift response to a distress call about a robbery incident around the BONSAAC axis of Asaba, where a female victim was robbed at gunpoint by two male suspects,” Edafe said.

“Working with local vigilantes, the team arrested one suspect, Amara Nwako, aged 21, while his accomplice fled into an uncompleted building. A locally made pistol was recovered during a search. Preliminary findings revealed a possible cult affiliation linking the suspect to the Arobaga secret cult. The suspect remains in custody, while a manhunt is underway for the fleeing accomplice.”

He added that on October 3, 2025, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), led by CSP Nosa Alex, conducted a targeted raid on a criminal hideout around the Basket Market area of Asaba, acting on credible intelligence.

“During the operation, three suspects Rabbi Godwin (25), Lucky Nanakumo (20), and David Igwe (19) were arrested. One fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered. The suspects are in custody as investigations continue to track additional gang members and recover more weapons,” Edafe stated.

In a separate operation, the police also arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered illicit substances.

Edafe explained that the Eagle Net Special Squad, led by SP Danyaya Yunusa, in collaboration with the Office of the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Illicit Drugs and Human Trafficking, intercepted a truck with registration number 3BGT 18LG, driven by Dennis Uruma, aged 52.

“Upon search, a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs was recovered, and the driver was arrested for further investigation,” he said.

The command’s spokesperson urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to aid police operations, assuring that the command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks, recovering weapons, and disrupting drug supply chains across the state.

An online news reports that these arrests come amid intensified security operations across Delta State following a recent surge in armed robbery, cult violence, and drug trafficking in Asaba, Warri, and Ughelli.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has reiterated the command’s commitment to making the state safer through intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration, and community engagement.

Delta’s elite anti-crime units including the Rapid Response Squad, Eagle Net Special Squad, and Crack Surveillance Teams have been strategically deployed to hotspot areas to clamp down on criminal elements and restore peace.
