ARMY OFFICER DIES AFTER WIFE SET HIM ABLAZE IN AKWA-IBOM

A Nigerian Army officer, Lt. Samson Haruna, has reportedly passed away after suffering significant burns in a domestic incident allegedly involving his spouse.
The event transpired on September 22, 2025, at Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, as noted by counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama, who disseminated the information on X.
Makama disclosed that, “a source indicated that the officer, who also served as a medical doctor assigned to the 6 Battalion Regimental Medical Officer, RMO, engaged in a heated dispute with his wife, Mrs. Samson Haruna, which culminated in her dousing him with petrol and igniting flames. ”
Lt. Haruna was promptly stabilized at the Military Reference Section (MRS) within the barracks before being conveyed to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for further medical attention.
“Despite all endeavors by medical staff to preserve his life, the officer ultimately succumbed to his injuries,“ the informant noted.
Officials have allegedly apprehended the suspect, who remains in detention, as inquiries into the details concerning the incident proceed.
