The Gombe State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes across the state.

Speaking during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said operatives of Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madaki, successfully arrested members of a cross-border kidnapping syndicate and recovered arms and ammunition used in criminal activities.

According to Abdullahi, on October 4, 2025, around 5:00 p.m., operatives, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Adamu Adamu, aged 30, a native of Song Local Government Area, Adamawa State, who currently resides in Jauro Jatau Quarters, Akko Local Government Area, Gombe State.

He explained that the suspect was linked to several kidnappings for ransom carried out within Nigeria and the Republic of Cameroon. During interrogation, Adamu reportedly confessed to being part of a larger network of cross-border criminals operating between the two countries.

In a separate operation, the command also apprehended three suspects over criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and attempted culpable homicide following a complaint by Nasiru Ahmad, a commercial motorcyclist from Yelenguruza Quarters, Gombe.

Ahmad reported that on September 26, 2025, around 2:30 p.m., three unknown men lured him to the Kundulum area under the guise of hiring his motorcycle. Upon arrival, they allegedly tied him up, drugged him, and abandoned him in a secluded location before fleeing with his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, valued at ₦800,000.

The swift response of detectives led to the arrest of the suspects Ahmad Umar, Abubakar Sanusi, both from Tukulma area, and Abubakar Ya’u (alias ABK), aged 26, of Malam Inna Quarters, Gombe. Two motorcycles were recovered as exhibits.

“The suspects have confessed to the crime and will be charged in court upon completion of investigations,” Abdullahi said.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism and bravery, the Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, assured residents of the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across Gombe State.

“We will not relent in our efforts to rid Gombe State of criminal elements. The safety and peace of residents remain our utmost priority,” Yahaya stated.

The police spokesperson further appealed to the public to continue providing credible information to aid ongoing security efforts in the state.
