A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has convicted and sentenced a retired Deputy Director of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Dare Adebowale Oladapo, for falsifying his age to illegally extend his service years and fraudulently earning salaries after his retirement.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Demola Bakare, Justice Ibrahim Yusuf delivered the judgment on October 7, 2025, finding Oladapo guilty of age falsification and corrupt self-enrichment — offences contrary to Sections 25(1)(a) and 25(1)(b) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
According to the ICPC, the case originated from a petition filed by Ilorin-based lawyer F. F. Ikebundu, which led to an investigation revealing that Oladapo altered his date of birth from November 11, 1959, to November 11, 1964, in order to unlawfully remain in service for an additional five years.
Prosecution counsel Kalu Ugbo and Zainab Moshood told the court that the convict fraudulently collected ₦1,233,258.95 in salaries and allowances between December 2019 and April 2020, four months after his legitimate retirement date.
Justice Yusuf sentenced Oladapo to two years’ imprisonment, with an option of ₦100,000 fine on each of the two counts, and further ordered him to refund the ₦1.23 million illicitly earned during the period.
The ICPC confirmed that the convict has paid both the ₦200,000 fine and the ₦1.23 million refund into the commission’s recovery account as directed by the court.
Bakare reiterated the ICPC’s commitment to promoting accountability and integrity within the public service, stressing that the commission will continue to prosecute individuals who abuse public trust for personal gain.
