The Police Command in Imo has initiated an inquiry into the attack on Mrs. Ndididamaka Agu, 55, by a group of men in Emekuku, near Owerri, the capital of Imo.

This information was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday in Owerri by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye.

Okoye indicated that the assault was reportedly executed on Agu due to her collaboration with law enforcement officials in an ongoing investigation.

He elaborated that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aboki Danjuma, mandated the investigation following a viral video that depicted the assailants attacking the victim, who is a resident of Umuakaliukwu Kindred, Uboegbelu, Azaraubo, Emekuku.

According to him, in response to the Commissioner’s directive, the X-Squad Unit has begun efforts to identify, apprehend, and ensure that all individuals implicated in this egregious act face justice promptly.

“Meanwhile, initial investigations have revealed that the victim was assaulted by six men.

“The attack was allegedly initiated due to the woman’s cooperation with police officers who had previously visited the community for investigative reasons.

“Consequently, efforts are presently underway to capture the suspects, after which legal proceedings will be instituted against them. ”

Okoye quoted the Commissioner of Police as vehemently denouncing the act, labeling it as barbaric, inhumane, and entirely intolerable.

Danjuma also cautioned that any form of extrajudicial punishment or intimidation towards residents who lawfully assist the police will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
