The Super Eagles have resumed training in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs semi-final clash against Gabon on Thursday, following the resolution of a bonus dispute with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe, confirmed the development on Wednesday, announcing to journalists via the team’s official WhatsApp group:

“Issues resolved. Super Eagles to train at 5 pm.”

The players had on Tuesday boycotted what would have been their second training session in protest of unpaid entitlements and unfulfilled promises from the NFF.

As a result, the Super Eagles will now have only one full training session with the entire squad before the crucial encounter against Gabon.

Reports indicated that 16 players were in camp as of Monday, though only 14 participated in the recovery session, with Sevilla duo Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke sitting out.

The boycott became public after the players released a joint statement through BBC journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, saying: “The full squad, including officials, withheld from training today (Tuesday) in Morocco because of unresolved issues with outstanding payments.

The Super Eagles are awaiting a quick resolution to continue preparation for Thursday’s game with Gabon.”

Negotiations between the players, the NFF, and the National Sports Commission reportedly took place afterward, leading to a compromise late Tuesday night.

Although details of the resolution were not made public, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau later addressed the issue, clarifying misconceptions surrounding the alleged backlog of unpaid bonuses.

“It’s not true that we have owed for 30 matches,” Gusau told Elegbete TV.

“After the AFCON last year, we met with the team leaders and cleared everything. Any outstanding balance now relates only to the qualifiers.

We have reached an agreement with the National Sports Commission and the players. They now receive appearance fees instead of match-by-match bonuses.”

The Super Eagles are set to face Gabon at the Complexe Sportif Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan in Rabat by 5 pm on Thursday, as they continue their bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
