FUTA MOVES TO WITHDRAW CERTIFICATES OF ERRING GRADUATES
The Federal University of Technology, Akure, has issued a caution that it will revoke the certificate of any graduate found culpable of misconduct.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, conveyed this caution on Friday during the 36th Convocation and Presentation of First Degrees at the university, where 2,747 students were conferred degrees.
Oladiji encouraged the graduates to transform present economic difficulties into avenues for creativity and innovation, emphasizing that their character would significantly influence their future.
“As is frequently stated, no individual can ascend beyond the boundaries of their character. Your character will dictate the extent of your success in life.
“Please be aware that the university retains the authority to revoke your certificate should you misrepresent it anywhere.
“Our sincere hope is that you will evolve into alumni of whom we can all be proud in the near future.
“I therefore urge you to persist in embodying the values that FUTA cherishes. By all means, remain individuals of exemplary character.
“Skills can propel you to the pinnacle, but enduring in that position requires character,” she remarked.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that FUTA has earned numerous commendations both nationally and internationally due to the achievements of its graduates, further noting that the university would continue to support its alumni when necessary.
Oladiji elaborated that 2,747 students were granted first degrees for the 2024/2025 academic session, which included 240 First Class graduates.
She mentioned that 1,479 students achieved Second Class (Upper Division), 912 Second Class (Lower Division), and 116 Third Class.
According to her, Aduragbemi Akindunbi, from the Department of Civil Engineering, emerged as the overall best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.98.
Additionally, the Pro-Chancellor of FUTA, Prof. Nora Daduut, praised President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative, characterizing it as a strategy aimed at elevating the nation to greater heights and enhancing its global stature.
Daduut emphasized the accomplishments of the institution’s governing council, highlighting its continued amicable relations with staff and students.
She affirmed that staff welfare remains a priority, with the council committed to ongoing training and capacity development to boost productivity.
As per her, over 3,000 students have benefited from the student loan scheme established under President Tinubu’s initiative to facilitate access to higher education.
