MIXED REACTIONS AS CONFLICTING REPORTS SPARK CONFUSION OVER ANAMBRA EX-GOVERNOR WILLIE OBIANO’S HEALTH

Confusion has trailed reports about the rumored death of former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, as conflicting statements emerged on Tuesday from different sources.
A Facebook post by Onyebuchi Okpala urged the public to disregard circulating claims that the former governor had died. In the post, Okpala insisted that Chief William Mmaduaburochukwu Obiano, popularly known as Akpokuedike, is alive.
“Please… disregard the fake news on social media. His Excellency Chief William Mmaduaburochukwu Obiano is still alive,” the post read. He further appealed to the public to “shun the fake death news,” adding prayers for Obiano’s continued good health.
However, moments earlier, former senator Ben Murray-Bruce posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) expressing condolences over what he described as the “reported passing” of Obiano.
“I’m deeply saddened by the reported passing of my dear friend, former Governor Willie Obiano,” he wrote. “He was a man of charm, courage, and commitment to his people. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the good people of Anambra State. May his soul rest in peace.”
The senator’s message intensified the confusion surrounding the situation, as no official confirmation had been issued by Obiano’s family, representatives or the Anambra State Government at the time of reporting.
As conflicting claims continue to circulate online, many Nigerians have called for an authoritative statement to clarify the former governor’s status and end the growing speculation.
