Two people have been confirmed dead in a road traffic crash involving a trailer and a Toyota Corolla at Kwang community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The accident occurred at about 8:10 a.m. on Monday near a filling station in the area, leaving three others injured and causing a temporary disruption to traffic flow.
Confirming the incident, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau State, Peter Longsan, said five persons were involved in the crash.
“Yes, the road traffic crash happened around 8:10 a.m. today involving a trailer and one other Toyota vehicle. Unfortunately, two people were killed during the incident. They were five people involved,” he said.
Longsan explained that police officers arrived at the scene before FRSC personnel and evacuated the bodies of the deceased to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, where they were deposited.
He added that FRSC operatives later cleared the wreckage to restore normal traffic flow on the road.
“Meanwhile, our men ensured there was no obstruction and were able to clear all obstructions on that road,” he said.
The FRSC attributed the crash to reckless driving and excessive speeding, warning motorists to exercise caution.
“The crash could be attributed to dangerous driving and excessive speeding and we are calling on motorists to avoid excessive speeding,” Longsan stated.
He further noted that trailer drivers, who have been restricted from using some inner-city routes in Jos, now often resort to alternative bypasses where speeding has become a concern.
“We advise that if they are taking the bypass, they should move at a reasonable speed so that they don’t constitute danger to other road users,” he added.
