The Lagos State Government has assured residents that the planned rehabilitation of the Lekki–Ajah corridor will not result in severe traffic congestion, despite widespread public concern ahead of the festive season.

In a statement issued on Friday, the government acknowledged the anxieties expressed by commuters but stressed that the project has been strategically designed to maintain smooth movement throughout the construction period.

It had been earlier reported that the eight-month rehabilitation will commence on Saturday, November 15, 2025, and run until July 15, 2026.

According to the government, the repairs will be executed in phases to prevent disruption to daily traffic flow. “Only specific sections of the corridor will undergo repairs at any given time, and these sections have been deliberately chosen to ensure minimal impact on the main carriageway,” the statement read.

Authorities also unveiled a comprehensive traffic management plan, which includes opening and reinforcing alternative routes. The government said the Coastal Road and adjoining service lanes will serve as strengthened bypasses to support diversions during the project.

To further ease traffic pressure, Lagos State is deploying a night-shift construction strategy. “The bulk of construction activity will take place when traffic volume is significantly lower,” the statement added.

Additionally, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority is set to play a critical role during the rehabilitation period. “LASTMA personnel will be deployed in adequate numbers along the entire stretch to ensure continuous movement and respond swiftly to any traffic pressure,” the government said.

While acknowledging potential inconvenience, the state emphasised that the long-term benefits far outweigh temporary disruptions. “The rehabilitation project intends to improve the Lekki–Ajah corridor, not to add discomfort to residents,” the statement noted.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure and promised continuous engagement with the public as the project progresses.
