TECH IS CUTTING SCHOOL KIDS OFF FROM REAL LIFE, SAYS PRINCIPAL

The Principal of Children’s International School, Lekki, Mr. Stewart King, has remarked that the growing dependence on technology is detaching children from essential social exchanges that are crucial for their emotional and relational development.

King articulated his thoughts during the institution’s yearly Funday, which united students, parents, and staff for a day filled with games, music, and collaborative activities designed to foster community spirit and comprehensive learning.

He elaborated that although digital gadgets have become an integral component of children’s education, they frequently hinder chances for genuine personal connections.

“Technology has the potential to seclude children, yet occasions like Funday cultivate face-to-face interactions, enhancing well-being and fostering a sense of community,” he stated.

In an interview with The media during the event, the headmaster emphasized the importance of achieving a balance between academic pursuits and participation in social engagements.

King expressed, “Funday is a yearly celebration for CIS. Orchestrated by our Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) and bolstered by our dedicated staff, parents, and students, it represents more than just a gathering; it signifies a celebration of our community’s unity.

“It offers children a chance to enjoy themselves, acquire new experiences, and forge memories with their peers. It also provides parents an opportunity to take a moment to unwind. ”

King highlighted that the event epitomized principles fundamental to the school’s mission, emphasizing that children benefit most from witnessing adults exemplifying collaboration and empathy.

He stated, “Our children learn immensely from observing the adults in their vicinity. The core message is that we accomplish more collectively, supporting each other and resolving challenges together. ”

“We are also thankful to the individuals and businesses that lend their support to this initiative. We anticipate welcoming between 1,500 and 2,000 members of our school community today. ”

He noted that students were actively involved in the planning and execution of the event.

“The students create the atmosphere of Funday. Their enthusiasm and delight are contagious. I have seen numerous acts of kindness in recent days, from assisting teachers with displays to setting up booths and comforting anxious friends,” he shared.

With activities ranging from inflatable castles and games to face painting and musical entertainment, King articulated that these interactions also contribute positively to children’s social and emotional growth.

He added that the school prioritized inclusivity across age groups, featuring a designated zone for older students and a relaxation area for parents.

“Our student body spans from ages 2.5 to 18, so we ensure that the activities cater to all age ranges,” King included.

He commended the Parents-Teachers Association for its partnership and support, describing parents as pivotal to the success of the school community.

“Events such as this require effective communication, strategic planning, and a proactive mindset. Our PTA executives and events team have collaborated flawlessly,” King remarked.
