An unspecified number of travelers are feared dead following a suspected bomb explosion along the Yar’Tasha–Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Command, Yazid Abubakar, reportedly confirmed the incident to Daily Post on Saturday, saying security operatives were aware of the blast but details were still sketchy.

“I can confirm that there was a blast in that area, but the incident just happened. I can’t tell you details yet. I will update you later,” Abubakar was quoted as saying in a telephone interview.

Efforts by newsmen to independently confirm the incident from the police spokesperson were unsuccessful, as his phone was switched off as of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, videos believed to show the aftermath of the explosion have been circulating on social media, capturing moments of panic as travelers fled the scene.

Reacting to the development, an X user, Nuhu Sada, a former Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for the Kaduna State House of Assembly during the 2025 bye-election in Zaria Kewaye Constituency, described the incident as a tragic attack on innocent civilians.

“Another tragic attack on innocent travelers in Zamfara. Families are grieving, lives are lost, and property destroyed. Security agencies must act quickly to prevent further harm and bring those responsible to justice,” he wrote.

Another user, identified as #DanKatsina50 on X, alleged that the explosion may have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by bandits, adding that casualties and the extent of damage were yet to be officially confirmed.

Security agencies are yet to release a comprehensive statement on the incident as investigations continue, while residents and travelers have called for increased security presence along the affected route.
