President Bola Tinubu on Sunday departed Lagos for Europe as part of his end-of-year vacation, ahead of an official visit to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
The President is expected to attend the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit, scheduled for early January, following an invitation from the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
In a statement, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the week-long summit convenes leaders from government, business and civil society to advance global dialogue on sustainable development.
He noted that the 2026 edition of the summit will be held under the theme, ‘The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go’, with discussions centred on connecting innovation, finance and people to drive sustainable growth.
The President is expected to return to Nigeria after the summit.
Tinubu’s trip comes days after he arrived in Lagos to spend the end-of-year holidays, during which he attended the grand finale of the Eyo Festival held at Tafawa Balewa Square on Saturday, following earlier official visits to Borno and Bauchi states.
He was received at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside government officials and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hotjist had earlier reported that the President departed Abuja on a three-state tour, during which he visited Borno State and commissioned projects executed by the Babagana Zulum-led administration in collaboration with the Federal Government.
