2026 FIBA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: D’TIGRESS LOSE 71–67 TO HUNGARY

Nigeria’s D’Tigress were defeated 71–67 by Hungary in their second Group B fixture at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin on Saturday.

Rena Wakama’s side endured a difficult start to the contest, trailing 21–13 at the end of the first quarter.

Hungary maintained control in the second quarter and stretched their lead to 36–26 at half-time.

D’Tigress came out stronger after the break, with Murjanatu Musa scoring three consecutive baskets to spark Nigeria’s fightback.

Amy Okonkwo also knocked down two three-pointers, while Ezinne Kalu added a lay-up, but Hungary still held a 52–42 advantage heading into the final quarter

Nigeria produced a spirited response in the fourth quarter, outscoring Hungary 25–19 as they threatened to complete a dramatic comeback.

Balogun and Victoria Macaulay played key roles in the rally, with Balogun’s late lay-up reducing the deficit to just two points.

Hungary, however, held their nerve in the closing seconds as Reka Lelik converted two free throws to secure a 71–67 victory and hand her country their first Women’s World Cup win in 28 years.

D’Tigress will now turn their attention to their final Group B fixture against France on Monday, September 7, as they look to finish the group stage on a positive note
