The Kano State House of Assembly has refuted media reports alleging moves to impeach the State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.
The Assembly’s Public Relations Officer, Kamaluddeen Shawai, dismissed the claims while speaking with journalists in Kano on Saturday, describing them as “baseless and misleading.”
According to him, there is no impeachment process or plan targeting the deputy governor.
“The reports circulating in some media outlets suggesting an attempt to impeach the Deputy Governor were intended to create unnecessary tension in the state.
“There is absolutely no motion or initiative within the House to remove the deputy governor.
“These reports are false and should be disregarded by the public. The deputy governor continues to serve in his capacity with full support from the House.”
Shawai urged the public and media organisations to verify information before publication, noting that responsible reporting is crucial to maintaining political stability in the state.
He added that the House remains committed to its legislative and oversight responsibilities and is not involved in speculative political activities.
“Our priority is good governance and serving the people of Kano, not circulating rumours,” he said.
The deputy governor has not publicly reacted to the impeachment reports. However, sources within the state government confirmed that he remains actively engaged in official duties and government programmes.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, had recently called on the deputy governor to resign over his decision not to defect alongside Governor Abba Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress.
Governor Yusuf had, on January 26, defected to the APC along with 22 members of the State Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives and 44 local government chairmen.
