The Lagos State Government has refuted claims that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was directed to step down due to health concerns, describing the report as entirely false and misleading.

In a statement released on Monday, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said the online publication behind the report had no factual basis for its claims.

According to the statement, “We have observed with concern a false publication alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been instructed to resign on health grounds, with the Deputy Governor expected to assume office.

“This claim is completely untrue. No one has asked the Governor of Lagos State to resign. It is yet another example of fake news, which has unfortunately become a recurring trend.”

The statement further emphasized that Governor Sanwo-Olu is healthy, mentally fit, and continues to perform his duties effectively as Governor of Lagos State.

Addressing reports about a political meeting between the Governor and his deputy, the government explained that the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, had visited the Governor earlier in the day to formally inform him of his intention to run for governor. It added that the meeting was cordial and routine.

The state government urged residents and the general public to ignore the report, describing it as fake news. It also reaffirmed that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains fully committed to governing the state and continues to carry out his responsibilities without any disruption.
