The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, has urged the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to fast-track the establishment of state police.
The former Oyo State governor said the move had become necessary to tackle the growing security challenges across the country.
He made the appeal on Monday while receiving participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 19, 2026 from the Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Bwari, Abuja, at his palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Chief Solomon Ayoade, the monarch stressed that state police would strengthen the efforts of existing security agencies and enhance community policing.
He described insecurity as Nigeria’s most pressing challenge and called on the Federal Government to avoid further delay in establishing the proposed structure.
“I call on the Federal Government to expedite action on the establishment of State Police to complement the efforts of other security agencies to ensure effective community policing,” he said.
Meanwhile, the leader of the visiting delegation, Director of Studies, Mrs. Ibrahim Halimah Zanna, expressed appreciation to the monarch for the warm reception despite the short notice of the visit. She noted that the team was in Oyo State for a week-long study tour.
