The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has predicted that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, may withdraw from the 2027 presidential race on January 16, 2027, at about 11am.

Wike claimed that Amaechi would announce his withdrawal while alleging that the election had been rigged.

The minister made the remarks on Saturday during President Bola Tinubu’s campaign rally in the Ikwerre area of Rivers State.

He recalled Amaechi’s role as Director-General of the presidential campaign of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, claiming that he failed to secure up to 15 per cent of the votes in the 2015 and 2019 elections.

According to Wike, “Mr President, January 16 is already around the corner, I want to tell you that by 11am you will hear somebody will announce, ‘we are not participating in the election, they have rigged it’.

“That was how the same person did in 2015 and 2019 when he was DG of the presidential campaign, he never got up to 15 percent, he never had it.”

Wike also challenged Amaechi to account for the $39 million reportedly allocated to the Karibi Whyte Specialist Hospital in Rivers State during his tenure as governor.

He further criticised the former governor over his claims that he fumigated the state to eliminate mosquitoes.

The FCT minister argued that residents were still exposed to mosquito bites despite Amaechi’s alleged fumigation exercise.

“Rivers people have never had it this way, not less than 47 political appointments from Mr President. We are not worried that we are campaigning, all we are saying is that please come and give account of how you fumigated Rivers State, you fumigated Rivers State that there will be no mosquito. Has mosquito gone? Is mosquito not biting you? This is the man that said as he fumigated Rivers State, he will fumigate Nigeria, will you allow that?

“We are not worried, all we are saying is that come and tell us where Karibi Whyte Specialist Hospital is, where we paid $39 million, if converted to naira today is not less than N53 billion. Come and show us where the foundation is,” he added.
