INEC TO CONDUCT FRESH POLLS IN 7 ABIA LGAs
New presidential and national assembly elections will be held on Monday in various polling units across the state’s seven Local Government Areas, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abia State.
The reported time for the new election is 8:00 am which was disclosed by the INEC Administration Secretary in charge of Abia State, Mr. Clement Oha, during a press conference on Sunday in Umuahia.
He identified the affected LGAs as: Obingwa, Osisioma, Aba North, Aba South, Umuahia North, Ohafia, and Arochukwu.
The affected polling units in the affected LGAs had been informed, according to the administration secretary.
According to him, the need for a new election was caused by the reported clashes that occurred in the impacted voting units on Saturday.
”We had various degrees of discrepancies with respect to the procedures that were violent to some extent.
“The Commission in their wisdom felt that the credibility of the election should not be compromised, and that there should be no winner by default. So, election must take place in the affected polling units tomorrow (Monday)”.
