JUST IN: FOUR KILLED IN BAUCHI ZAKAT STAMPEDE
In Bauchi State, four people have died in a stampede that occurred during an almsgiving zakat activity for the underprivileged.
Around ten in the morning on Sunday, there was a rush at the Shafa Holdings Company plc headquarters located on Jos Road.
At the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, another patient, Naima Abdullahi, 17, is undergoing medical care at this time.
Ahmed Wakili, the police public relations officer, confirmed the incident to newsmen and gave his word that things are stable at the moment. He said that the police commissioner urged the public to maintain composure and that the police responded quickly to the news.
On visiting the scene, the crowd had been dispersed, and police vehicles were stationed in the area. However, a few women are still waiting outside in anticipation of further disbursement.
At this time, no official statement has been released by the company.
