JUST IN: MANCHESTER UNITED CONFIRMS APPOINTMENT OF AMORIN AS HEAD COACH
On November 11, Ruben Amorim, who has been announced as Manchester United’s next head coach, will assume leadership of the Premier League team.
After Sunday’s defeat at West Ham, Erik ten Hag was fired on Monday.
Amorim, the highly regarded head coach of Sporting Lisbon, was the target of United, who have today revealed a deal has been reached.
The agreement will expire in June 2027, with a one-year extension option.
The 39-year-old, who managed the Portuguese champions’ final three games before the international break, will begin working with the Red Devils on November 11.
United confirmed Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue as interim manager until Amorim’s arrival.
“Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as head coach of the men’s first team, subject to work visa requirements.
“He will join until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club.
“Ruben is one of European football’s most exciting and highly rated young coaches.
“Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP; the first of which was the club’s first title in 19 years.”
