The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Zamfara State Council have unanimously decided to demand that the Zamfara State Government immediately adopt the N70,000 National Minimum Wage.

Following a November 8, 2024, NEC meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the NLC National Secretariat issued a directive in its statement, which this decision was in accordance with.

This was said in a statement provided to reporters in Gusau, the state capital, and signed by Comrade Sani Halliru, the State chairman of the NLC.

In light of growing economic difficulties, the statement denounced the failure of certain state governments, particularly Zamfara, to enact the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act, calling it a betrayal of workers’ rights.

The State government has been given until the end of November 2024 to implement the minimum wage, and all member unions in the state have endorsed this deadline.

“Failure to implement the wage will compel the NLC and its affiliates to embark on an indefinite industrial action, effectively shutting down the state from December 1, 2024.

“The NLC Council stands firmly in solidarity with Nigerian workers in their fight for justice and dignity.

“The failure to implement the minimum wage is a blatant disregard for the law, morality, and the well-being of workers who continue to endure immense hardship.

“We call on all workers in Zamfara State to prepare for this industrial action, as it is a necessary step to secure their rights and improve their livelihoods.

“The NLC Zamfara State Council remains committed to advocating for the welfare of workers and ensuring that the government fulfills its obligations.

“Justice delayed is justice denied. Nigerian workers deserve their rightful wages, and we will not relent until the minimum wage is fully implemented in Zamfara State,” the communique read.
