NDUME’S CRITICS IS ‘HYPOCRITICAL AND SELECTIVE’ — PRESIDENCY
The Presidency has refuted the claims of Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume of Borno South on ethnic bias in the President’s appointments.
Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, on Tuesday evening, described Ndume’s criticism as “hypocritical” and “selective,” inculpating Ndume’s of neglecting the facts for political grandstanding.
“Senator Ndume’s latest outbursts on TV about so-called ‘lopsided appointments’ by President Tinubu reeks of hypocrisy and selective perception,” Tinubu’s spokesman, said.
Continuing “While he grandstands as a moral authority on equity, he failed to mention that two of his kinsmen were recently appointed to top roles in NNPC Limited. The Chairman, appointed by President Tinubu, hails from Ndume’s senatorial district.”
Tinubu’s media aide lambasted Ndume’s statement as a recurring pattern of “headline-chasing” and “rabble-rousing,” suggesting that the Senator frequently makes unsubstantiated claims that are later proven false.
The Presidency also clarified that “President Tinubu’s appointments are—and will continue to be—based on merit, geographical spread, and a demonstrable capacity to serve the Nigerian people, not Ndume’s cherry-picked tribal arithmetic”.
Onanuga, however, urged “elevate public discourse” and refrain from what it characterized as “misinformation and baseless criticism.”
