The Katsina State Police Command has successfully foiled two separate kidnapping attempts in Sabuwa Local Government Area, rescuing 28 victims in operations carried out on Monday and Tuesday. However, the coordinated attacks by suspected bandits left three people dead.
According to a statement released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the rescue missions were part of ongoing security operations ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, to combat banditry and kidnapping across the state.
On Tuesday, July 29, around 9:24 a.m., the police responded to a distress call that gunmen had blocked the Sabuwa–Kaya Road near Inno Junction and abducted 14 travelers. Prompt action by the Divisional Police Officer and his team led to a gun duel that forced the bandits to retreat, resulting in the safe rescue of all victims. Unfortunately, a 27-year-old man identified as Abba, from Funtua town, was killed during the incident.
A day earlier, on Monday, July 28, at about 11:27 p.m., another group of armed bandits attacked Zagaizagi Village in the same LGA, abducting multiple residents and killing two. Police operatives quickly mobilized to the area, engaged the attackers, and successfully rescued 14 more victims. Two rustled cows were also recovered during the operation.
While commending the officers for their swift and courageous response, CP Shehu urged the public to support the police with timely and accurate information to enhance security efforts.
“The command remains committed to the protection of lives and property across Katsina State,” the statement emphasized.
Investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
