JUST IN: LASU STAFF EMBARK ON INDEFINITE STRIKE

Scholarly and non-scholarly personnel of Lagos State University (LASU) have initiated an indefinite work stoppage due to concerns regarding welfare and various unresolved matters with the administration.
While specifics regarding the employees’ complaints were not readily accessible at the time of reporting, it was ascertained that the labor dispute commenced on Thursday, July 31.
In correspondence addressed to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, dated July 31, 2025, the leadership of the four unions within the institution pledged not to terminate the strike until all their requests were satisfied.
Functioning under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee, which includes the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), the unions articulated that the resolution to initiate the indefinite industrial action was made during an Emergency Congress of the Joint Action Committee.
The letter, endorsed by Prof. Ibrahim Bakare (Chairman, ASUU-LASU), Sylvester Idowu (Secretary, ASUU-LASU), Oluwaseyi Lawal (Chairman, SSANU-LASU), and Waheed Majekodunmi (Secretary, SSANU-LASU), and titled “Notice of Indefinite Strike Action,” states, “Following the decision made at the Emergency Congress of the Joint Action Committee of the Lagos State University Staff Unions (ASUU-LASU, SSANU-LASU, NAAT-LASU & NASU-LASU) that an INDEFINITE STRIKE ACTION should commence effective from Thursday, July 31, 2025, we write to inform you that the indefinite strike action has COMMENCED at Lagos State University.
“The strike action will remain in effect INDEFINITELY until all the demands of the Staff Members are fulfilled by the relevant authorities.
“Accordingly, all staff members of the University and its affiliated Campuses (LASUCOM and LASU Epe Campus) are hereby DIRECTED to cease their services and vacate their official duty posts with immediate effect.
“While we express our gratitude for your continued support and kindness, we kindly request that you accept the assurances of the Unions’ warm regards. ”
