Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) confirmed on Monday that the bodies were discovered at different locations in Kojiyo, Bare, and a village in Wurno Local Government Area. The victims have since been buried according to Islamic rites.

Speaking on behalf of the state government, Commissioner for Information, Sambo Gobir, assured residents that measures were being taken to enhance safety on the waterways. He disclosed that the state would fast-track the completion of an ongoing bridge project in the area, procure motorised boats, and distribute life jackets across six riverine local government areas.
“Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration is deeply concerned about the safety of our people. We will not relent until we put in place measures that guarantee safe and reliable transportation across our waterways,” Gobir stated.
Meanwhile, NEMA officials confirmed that search and rescue operations were still ongoing to locate other victims of the mishap.
