The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has advised higher education institutions that breached admission regulations regarding the submission of matriculation lists, cautioning that such infractions could disqualify candidates and make their admissions invalid.

The Board, in its weekly news bulletin released on Monday, said the affected institutions, which failed to upload their matriculation lists as required, have tendered apologies. It, however, failed to disclose the names of the institutions.

They implored for clemency and assured they would amend the infractions by providing the overdue lists within seven days,” it stated.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, characterized the violation as “a deviation,” emphasizing that certain institutions had executed admissions via the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) yet neglected to matriculate the admitted individuals.

“You executed admissions on CAPS, yet failed to matriculate any student. We believe that prior to submitting the report to the government, it is prudent to engage with you,” Oloyede reportedly remarked during a meeting with leaders of various institutions in Abuja the previous week.

He underscored that matriculation is a requisite procedure delineated in Section 23(7) of the admission regulations, which mandates every institution to upload its matriculation list for assessment. The results of such assessment dictate whether an institution receives authorization to conduct matriculation ceremonies, conditional approval, or outright disapproval for non-compliance.

The Registrar additionally cautioned that any candidate whose name is absent from the National Matriculation List would be deemed not properly admitted by JAMB. “No such unlawful admission will be tolerated,” he affirmed.

While admonishing the institutions, JAMB acknowledged their expressions of regret and pledged that steps would be taken to ensure candidates are not unjustly penalized for institutional shortcomings.

He reiterated that all impacted institutions must submit formal letters of apology on CAPS within 24 hours, upload all outstanding matriculation lists within seven days from August 18, and ensure that affiliate institutions function exclusively through their parent institutions, with appointed supervisors overseeing compliance.
