AKPABIO URGES NIGERIANS TO SAFEGUARD GOVERNMENT FACILITIES IN THEIR COMMUNITIES

BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has urged Nigerians to uphold and safeguard government assets within their local communities.
Speaking during the inauguration of projects in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Akpabio stated, “My responsibility as your representative in the Senate is to guarantee that I deliver projects that you request for the collective benefit of the populace. As the recipients of these initiatives, you bear a responsibility to protect the facilities to prevent them from being vandalized or damaged by those who impede progress. In essence, I wish for communities to take ownership of these projects; in doing so, governments at all tiers will be motivated to undertake further initiatives. ”
In a declaration made by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Jackson Udom, the Senate President further asserted, “If you claim, after all, that it is government property and proceed to vandalize it, are we not all part of the government? This indicates that you are also undermining your assets, and in so doing, you have only succeeded in disheartening the government from investing further in your community. ”
Akpabio, who assured his constituents of the resolve and dedication of the President Bola Tinubu-led Renewed Hope administration to deliver the benefits of democracy to every Nigerian before his term concludes, remarked, “This current administration under President Bola Tinubu is compassionate and committed to easing the lives of the people, particularly for the everyday citizen. The President has recently sanctioned the financial empowerment of 1,000 Nigerians from each ward across the nation to enhance their economic capabilities at the grassroots level. ”
Earlier in his welcoming address, a community leader and member of the National Communication Commission (NCC), Chris Okorie, reassured the Senate President of the re-election of President Tinubu, himself, and Governor Umo Eno to their respective positions.
Among the projects inaugurated by the Senate President are an eight-classroom block and an ICT Centre at St. Augustine Secondary School in Ika Local Government Area, a 12-classroom block at the Community Secondary School, and a modern market in Uruk-Ata 2, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.
