…Continues Consultations with Faith and Traditional Leaders to Strengthen National Unity

President Bola Tinubu on Friday held a closed-door meeting with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, at the State House, Abuja, as part of ongoing consultations with religious and traditional leaders across the country.

The meeting comes just days after the President received the Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Ayau Kaigama, in a similar engagement focused on fostering national cohesion and dialogue among faith communities.

According to the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, who shared videos of both meetings on X, the consultations are part of the administration’s efforts to deepen social trust and promote peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s diverse religious and ethnic groups.

Presidency sources said that the discussions centred on strengthening interfaith cooperation, enhancing national integration, and addressing emerging social challenges threatening community stability.

The engagements, officials said, align with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises inclusivity, dialogue, and unity as key pillars for sustaining national stability and cohesion.

The consultations come at a sensitive time, following the United States’ October 31, 2025, redesignation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged religious freedom violations.

The US had cited reports of more than 7,000 Christian deaths in the first seven months of 2025, allegedly linked to attacks by Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Fulani militants.

However, the Federal Government has firmly rejected the claims, insisting that Nigeria’s constitution guarantees freedom of worship and that reports of targeted religious persecution amount to “false narratives.”

Officials emphasized that President Tinubu remains committed to promoting peace, mutual respect, and harmony among all faiths as part of his broader vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria.
